Beautiful on the Mountain by Jeannie Light was an inspiring true story. The author recalls the phase of her life spent
in the Blue Ridge Mountains. After a heart-breaking divorce, Jeannie moves to a small town with aspirations of raising sheep. A series of events and comic interactions
with local residents inspires her to take steps to re-open the tiny, community
chapel. Jeannie must struggle against
the people that don’t feel a woman should be teaching the Bible, as well as
find a way to get herself some education in ministry.
This book was inspiring to me in many ways. First, I love the way that the author was
willing to listen to the Lord’s prompting and allow Him to change her
course. She walked the path she planned,
but didn't fight when He changed that path.
Second, as a woman who has worked in ministry for several years myself,
I could relate to the preconceived notions that people carry and her personal fight
against those. Last, the compassion that
she had on the local residents and their personal trials reminded me to be
aware of those around me and to watch for simple ways to love them.
I highly recommend Beautiful on the Mountain: An Inspiring True Story
as an entertaining and
uplifting read for the summer.
