Assignment from Nora

Okay, so my counselor gave me another assignment. Since I clearly use food to soothe myself (stress, celebration, energy, you name the reason, I use it!), I am supposed to get ideas from other people how they soothe themselves without using food.

Your thoughts, oh dear mommy friends?

Mind you, the bubble bath does wonders every time, but when the kids are fighting, a bubble bath is not exactly feasible, while any accessible chocolate is!

My dear friend, I would LOVE to know what other mommies do to soothe themselves! I am guilty with the food thing too and it is destructive on so many levels. I'm not actually dealing with what I'm feeling and then to further the blow, my waistline grows which is directly related to how I feel about my myself. It is a vicious cycle! Hopefully there are some great mommy tips out there from others! Sorry I couldn't be more useful, just wanted to say I know how you feel! :)

OK, I'm not a mommy and it's still sortof food, but what about tea? There are all kinds of tea (decaf and non)that can become a really specialized -*special*- sort of thing. You could be picky about just which tea for which moment, making it a more special process for yourself. Some are visually really pretty with flowers and stuff in it. My favorite is a Victorian Earl Grey (I get the decaf) with rose petals and lavendar in it. It looks really pretty (before you use it). Another tea I like is Rooibos. It's non-caffeinated and now comes in many teas/combinations. It's supposed to be good for you - lots of antioxidants. I'm not an iced tea fan, but you could do that too. Put in fancy apple-mint leaves or whatever. (this is from Karina, but Chris has the blogspot account that has come up)

Karina, I'm so glad you identified yourself! .... If only I was a tea fan... too bland. I can do apple cider/hot chocolate etc but tea is just not tasty enough... but it's a great idea! :)

When you figure it out...please share :) Whenever the kids are whining, crying, etc...I find I make a b-line for the kitchen. URGH! Miss you.

oh Deb... miss you!!! this is so funny that this has gotten so few responses... It must be an area for so many... so how do you stay so healthy if that's your normal go-to??? and how's Illinois? and WHY Illinois?

Hmmm... I got some aromatherapy flower oil sprays that you can use as a body mist or air freshener. It's a smell, so maybe would tap into the food connection, but no calorie. It's kindof a little indulgence thing like a bubble bath, too. Take a deep breath. And maybe it will calm those fighting kids, too!
